Emirati Music Series marks 1st First Arab Music Celebration in Year of Zayed … reports Asian Lite News.

The Emirati Music Series brought an evening of Arab music and songs inspired by the late Founding Father’s poems to audiences at the Abu Dhabi Theatre yesterday.

Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, Emirati artist Faisal Al Saari and Syrian singer Abood Bashir took to the stage for a night of music and song marking the beginning of the Year of Zayed, with themes of both Emirati heritage and modernity.

The night also featured songs in the Muwashahat style, an Arabic poetic form and a secular musical genre. The performance, as curated by Al Saari, sought to adapt the Muwashahat style to that of an Emirati performance for the Abu Dhabi community.

The Emirati Music Series brings together Emirati and Middle Eastern musicians to find new ways to preserve and renew the rich vocal traditions of the UAE.

The Emirati Music Series represents a core aspect of the Department of Culture and Tourism’s annual Music Programme, along with Abu Dhabi Classics, Bait Al Oud and the Umsiyat series.

Together the programmes form a musical panorama allowing residents and visitors to discover traditional and contemporary music and instruments that are vital to the safeguarding of the heritage and culture of the UAE. These performances aim to preserve the rich musical tradition of the country, and also offer a platform of musical expression for new generations.
