Dubai Municipality emphasizes keenness to support and empower women … reports Asian Lite News.

Dawood Al Hajiri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, met with members of the Al Reem Women’s Team in the Municipality to review the achievements of the team during the last period.

Al Hajiri praised the efforts of the team and expressed his happiness with the results achieved by the projects and programs that have been implemented to serve the female employees of the Municipality and help them to balance their professional and social lives and to harness their knowledge and work potential to achieve success and excellence.

He stressed the keenness of the Municipality to provide an environment that contributes to the empowerment of working women in order to contribute their role in empowering the society by helping them to activate their creative and innovative energies and encourage them to participate actively in development and serve the nation in various fields, realizing the vision of late Sheikh Zayed, who cared for women as a key partner in the process of sustainable development.

Maryam Bin Fahad, Director of Knowledge Management Department and Head of Al Reem Team gave a comprehensive presentation on the activities of the team since its restructuring in 2015. The presentation included preparation of the work plan, community initiatives, and activities related to the team, which aimed to highlight the innovative and distinguished female employees of the Municipality, and raise awareness on the community issues that affect the working women.

Al Hajiri was briefed on the best practices applied in the field of interest to female employees that included meeting their needs effectively and measuring their impact on their level of satisfaction.

Bin Fahad said that the mission of the team is to uplift and empower female employees in all fields to contribute to the sustainable development of the Emirate of Dubai. “Our objectives are to contribute to creating a stimulating working environment for the female employees of the Municipality, to optimize investment of competencies and skills, to enhance the role of the female employees in community development, building a happy family, and developing a network of professional and social communication between the Municipality’s female employees and the various institutional teams at the local, governmental and international levels, as well as encouraging female employees to participate in various events held inside or outside the Municipality,” she said.

Bin Fahad also presented an analytical study on women in the Municipality to make the best use of the study data and generate new proposals for organizing events and initiatives to enhance happiness, job satisfaction and corporate culture among female employees of the Municipality.

The study revealed that the total number of female employees has increased to 1,298 whereas the percentage of male employees stands at 73%. The percentage of Emarati females holding managerial posts is 48%, supervising posts 10%, professional and technical jobs 28%, and administrative professionals 8%, in addition to 6% in auxiliary jobs.

The study said that the experience of 68% the Emarati female employees does not exceed 10 years, and the proportion of female employees with experience between 10 years to 20 years is 26%, while the proportion of employees with years of experience from 20 to 30 years is only 6%.

Bin Fahad said that the team carried out several activities for the advancement of women in the Municipality with three directions, the first of which included 5 celebrations, namely the celebration of International Women’s Day, World Mother’s Health Day, UAE Women’s Day, Mother’s Day and the annual forum of the team.

More than 10 courses were organized for the development of women’s skills in various fields, including the “Journey to the Heart” course and the seminar, “When I Found My Soul,” makeup courses, and many other women’s courses.

The team also supported the march of women on the sports side by allocating a women’s sports club to the Dubai Municipality Club, and participating in the Sheikha Hind tournament, joining with other organizations in sports activities and providing offers for female employees in sports clubs.

The club has carried out many community activities including digging wells for the needy in many countries in the world, building the women’s mosque in Togo, donating to cancer patients and Eid gifts for orphans.
