Engineering exhibition highlights sustainability and development

Dubai Municipality engineering exhibition highlights importance of planning in sustainability and development … reports Asian Lite News.

Dawood Al Hajiri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, recently inaugurated an engineering exhibition entitled, “Planning an Effective Engine in the Development Wheel,” organized by the Planning Department of the Municipality to highlight the importance of planning in the sustainability and development process in the Emirate of Dubai.

He inspected the designs presented by university students from around the world, who participated in the three-day international competition organized by the Municipality in cooperation with Saint-Gobain to present sustainable designs and ideas.

In addition to drawings and plans for sustainable urban designs, the exhibition included scientific lectures on sustainability and urban planning aimed at young engineers. It also included a debate on the views of young engineers on the basis of their views and perceptions. The Dubai Young Planners team in the Planning Department supervised the exhibition and the festival, with the slogan, “You Are a Planner in the Wheel of Development.”

Eng. Najib Mohammed Saleh, Director of Planning Department, delivered a speech in which he discussed the role of the higher leadership of the Emirate in urging young people to be creative and innovative and also their strong concern for sustainability and development.

He also said that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has always been telling the youth that “the future of the UAE is in their hands and they have to continue the march with great skill.”

Saleh added that the UAE has accomplished many national, civilizational and humanitarian achievements and it has assumed a distinguished position among the countries of the world thanks to the directives of the wise government and many countries have followed and learned from its experience and development in all fields.

He pointed out that the most important achievement of the country is its young people, who are the future, and they have the responsibility to make their future and the future of the next generations and achieve goals and aspirations.

Saleh called on the Dubai Young Planners team to continue innovation and creativity in order to achieve many of the national goals.

The first day activities included a session conducted by Dr. Nada Chami from Saint-Gobain, as well as a session on the Expo 2020 project, which dealt with the design and planning of the project and the elements of sustainability, in addition to the initiatives supervised by Expo 2020 in the field of sustainability and community involvement. Sustainability Specialist Eng. Aisha Al Marzouqi and Eng. Mohammed Al Shuwaihi, Director of Infrastructure and City Integration Department of Expo 2020 gave presentations.

The second day’s sessions included presentation of innovative design projects by Ajman University students, as well as the activity, “Let’s Talk Planning,” which included discussions moderated by Dr. Nahla Al Qassimi, Dean of Student Affairs at Ajman University, with experts and planning specialists in Dubai Municipality to get the views of young engineers from government agencies and university students to know their opinions and solutions from different angles and perspectives as young engineers and planners.

This is in addition to the Dubai Map Competition, which aims to educate students about the sites and names of the regions, how to read the map of Dubai to determine the location and link to the region and the teacher, and the Who Said It? contest on the most famous architects and planners.
