The Researches and Building Systems Section in the Building Licensing Department of Dubai Municipality has issued the Dubai Guide for Universal Design in Built Environment.
The guide on the Buildings and Facilities, which is based on the Dubai Universal Design Code, is issued for the purpose of facilitating the application of accessibility requirements for People of Determination and the elderly at all facilities and buildings of various types and simplifying it by clarifying these requirements.
These requirements are supported by 3D illustrations of each item on the checklist, which will positively contribute to enabling government and private entities, building owners, developers, investors, engineers, consultancy offices and contracting companies to benefit from them and to know how to apply accessibility requirements in the built environment, in line with the pace of urban growth and given the specific needs of the People of Determination and all segments of the society.
Eng. Layali Al Mulla, Director of Building Licensing Department, said that the Dubai Guide for Universal Design in the Built Environment, which is available electronically on the Dubai Municipality website, is part of the Municipality’s continuous efforts to implement all practices aimed at supporting the People of Determination as an important category in the community.
“Dubai Municipality is continuously organizing initiatives, events, awareness programs and various activities for the category of People of Determination in order to make them happy as it is part of our social responsibility towards their support and facilitating all their needs,” she said.
Eng. Fida Al Hammadi, Director of Research and Building Systems Section, said: “Dubai Municipality has consistently supported Dubai’s strategy to implement effective practices aimed at integrating and empowering People of Determination in the community and developing their potential by facilitating their life and removing obstacles, which in turn contributes to the community-based initiative, “My Community is a Place for All” launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council to transform Dubai into a city friendly for the People of Determination by 2020.”
