A statue of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, unveiled at the 47th National Day celebrations in India this week will be on display at the UAE Embassy in New Delhi for a week.

After this period, kept aside for viewing at the mission, the statue of the Founding Father of the UAE will be shifted to a museum. Further details about its destination will be announced at a later time.

The statue, sculpted by a famous Indian artist in Mumbai, Arzan Khambatta, was unveiled this week jointly by India’s Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Vijay Goel and the UAE Ambassador to India, Dr. Ahmed Albanna.

The statue was the key attraction at the National Day reception in New Delhi’s diplomatic enclave. Ambassadors from scores of countries, many of whom have previously served in the UAE or interacted closely with the UAE, admired the sculpture and discussed the late Sheikh Zayed’s legacy.

The ceremony featured a gala dinner with Emirati cuisine and traditional dances and a tent with traditional UAE handicrafts, showcasing the country’s cultural heritage.

Peace is a key theme in the artist’s work and the late Sheikh Zayed’s ideals of peace, tolerance and acceptance are reflected in the sculpture unveiled on this auspicious occasion, which coincides with the ‘Year of Zayed’, as the UAE marks the centenary of the birth of its Founding Father.
