UAE Exchange – Chiranthana Gulf Literary Awards Announced

UAE Exchange – Chiranthana Gulf Literary Awards for 2017 were announced and will be formally presented on Thursday, October 25th, 2018.

The Awards were formed by UAE Exchange, the leading Money Exchange house in UAE and Chiranthana cultural forum, mainly for encouraging writers and literary talents in the UAE region.

Considering the outstanding contributions to the field and marking the year of Zayed, Khalid Al Danhani the Arabic poet and K Sachindananthan, the Indian Poet were selected for the Excellent Personality Awards.

The expatriate talents Ramani Venugopal, Velliyodan, Shaji Haneef, Thahir Ismail, K M Abbas, Ismayil Meladi, Sadiq Kavil, Sainudheen Punnayurkkulam, Rafeek Memundu, Kasim Udumapnathala were also selected for the awards.

The following are the books and authors in the various categories published in 2017 selected for the Awards.  Ramani Venugopal for her novel ‘Aavaniyile Adidhikal’, Velliyodan for his short Story ‘Aaya’, Shaji Haneef for his poem ‘Adhrishyavarnagal’, Thahir Ismail for his article ‘Vazhichoodukal’ are some of the award winners.

Special Jury awards will be given to the expatriate Malayalam writer Ismail Meladi for ‘The migrant Stand Stones’, the best English work by a Malayalam writer. ‘Emarathinte Vazhikalillode’ by KM Abbas was selected for the best work on the background of India – UAE relation and Kasim Mohammed for the best Malayali Arab writer.

Under the child literature category ‘Kushi’ written by Sadiq Kavil, ‘Na Sthree Swatantriyamarhadi’ by Punnayoorkulam Sainudheen for his female centered literature and ‘Penn Pravasam’ by Rafeek Menundu the collection of various experiences of the Pravasi women working in the different sectors are selected for special awards.

KK Moideen Koya, Media Relations Director, UAE Exchange and Punnakkan Mohammed Ali, President, Chiranthana Cultural forum announced the awards at the press meet. The awards will be given at the function held in Flora Grant Hotel, Deira, Dubai at 7 PM. The winners will be given Recognition Letter, Memento, Ponnada and cash awards.

A lecture on the topic ‘The role of Literature in Cultural Defence’ by K Sachidanandan and poetry reciting of various Arab and Indian poets will also take place during the Award Function. Well known personalities from the different walks of life in UAE are expected at the function.

Vinod Nambiayar, UAE Exchange Events & Associate Manager, Punnakkan Beeran, Vice President Chiranthana, Firoz Thaman, General Secretary Chiranthana, TP Ashraf, Treasurer Chiranthana also were present at the press conference.
