In her inaugural address, Ambassador of India to Germany, Mrs. Mukta Dutta Tomar highlighted the synergy in the relations between India and Germany. She presented the opportunities that India, the fastest growing major economy,offers as an investment destination and mentioned the commitment of the Government of India to structural reforms to create a stable and secure business environment. She added that the results of the reform processes were amply evident in the steep jump in India’s position from 142 in 2014 to 77 in 2019 in the Ease of Doing Business rankings.

Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke, Director General of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, mentioned the appeal of the Indian economy to global investments which was evident from the presence of over 1800 German companies in India. He welcomed India’s rapid and stable growth and alluded to the diverse opportunities in the new and upcoming sectors in India.

The event featured a special Address by Mr. Deepak Bagla, CEO of Invest India,who expressed his conviction about the strengthening of the Indian growth story. Touching upon the slew of reforms being undertaken to create an ambient investment climate, he encouraged German companies to invest in India. He also commended the start-up revolution in India.

The Panel Discussion on the experiences of entry into the Indian market with the representatives of German companies in India, followed by an interactive session, provided useful insights into various issues related to investing in India. The Exchange Program featured several success stories of MIIM Companies which highlighted how the MIIM initiative facilitated and catalysed their engagements within India.

MIIM Initiative

The MIIM initiative was launched in September 2015 by the Embassy of India, Berlin, as a follow up to the international launch of the Make in India initiative by Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi at the Hannover Messe in April 2015. The initiative is a Business Support Programme for German Mittelstand (medium-sized) and family owned enterprises offering a unique integrated platform for on-demand market entry services that combines services rendered by Government agencies and the private sector.Over the last 3 years, 123 companies with a total declared investment of close to € 880 million have associated with MIIM.
