Oman: Lockdown In Dhofar and Masirah To Stay

July 15, 2020

Oman’s Supreme Committee tasked with tackling COVID-19 pandemic developments, held a meeting on Wednesday at the Interior Ministry under the chairmanship of Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior.

The meeting followed up on the pandemic updates and prevention measures set to curb the spread of the virus.

The Committee took note of the considerable increase in the number of deaths and the surge in cases of infection, particularly among Omani families as a result of increased social mingling and exchange of visits – as indicated by epidemiological investigation data.

It expresses deep dismay at this increase and also urged all citizens and residents to exercise extreme care and caution and to stick to the precautionary measures undertaken to halt the rise in infection and mortality cases.

The Committee also reviewed epidemiological data on Governorate of Dhofar and the Wilayat of Masirah and decided to continue the lockdown of the two areas till further notice.

The Committee thereafter discussed the demands of citizens seeking travel abroad and agreed to facilitate their travel, on condition that they abide, on their return home, by existing precautionary procedures and any decisions/procedures that might be issued in future by the departments concerned.
