Oman’s Majlis A’Shura Discuss New VAT Law

The Economic and Financial Committee of Majlis A’Shura today completed its deliberations on the Value Added Tax (VAT) Law draft forwarded to the Majlis by the government.

In this context, the Committee hosted Saud bin Nasser al Shukaili, Deputy Chairman of the Tax Authority, and a number of specialists from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the tax authority and the Public Authority for Consumer Protection to listen to their views about provisions of the draft law and to enable them to present their comments and proposals.

The discussion took place during the 15th meeting of the Majlis’s First Annual Convening (2019-2020) of its 9th Term. The session was chaired by Sulayim bin Ali al Hakamani, Head of the Economic and Financial Committee.

The meeting discussed all aspects of the VAT draft law and its expected effects and impacts on commerce and industry sectors and the economy as a whole.

The Economic and Financial Committee will present its report quoting outcomes and recommendations for further review during the Majlis’s regular sessions.
