Turkey is getting into trouble, warns Arab League

October 5, 2020

In recent years Turkey has turned up the levels of its ambitions. Apart from being militarily involved in internal tensions of Syria, Iraq and Libya it also aims to carve out an Islamic bloc under its leadership.

The most recent external intervention by Ankara is seen in the Caucasus where Azerbaijan and Armenia have begun a war over territorial disputes. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also ordered provocative intervention in the Eastern Mediterranean and also with Egypt.

According to the Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit Turkey’s multi frontier interventions won’t end well.

“Turkey is facing a group of differences with regional and superpower parties to a degree that will not end well for it or its leadership. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is interfering in Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Libya militarily,” Arab News quoted him as saying.

He cited the involvement of France in the Mediterranean scene and the movement of Italy towards France as red flags for Turkey. Gheit also expressed his discontentment in arraying Syrian mercenaries with Azerbaijan.

“It annoys me that the Syrians use mercenaries to fight with Azerbaijan against Armenia … It is very sad that Syrian mercenaries are being used by Erdogan in cases that are unrelated to Turkey,” Aboul Gheit said.
