Bangladesh votes in parliamentary elections

Around 600,000 security personnel, including the army, have been deployed across the country in a bid to contain violence during the 11th general elections … reports Asian Lite News.

Millions of Bangladeshis head to polling stations to vote in Sunday’s parliamentary elections. Voting started at 8 am local time (02:00 GMT) and is expected to conclude at 4 pm (10:00 GMT) across more than 40,000 polling stations. Counting will begin soon after the voting ends.

Around 600,000 security personnel, including the army, have been deployed across the country in a bid to contain violence during the 11th general elections.

Election authorities are permitting more than 25,000 local election observers to monitor the polls. Only 50 foreign observers will be present at polling stations.

Results are expected Monday, according to election officials.
