Lulu Group Gears up to Greet Expo 2020  

Abu Dhabi headquartered retail giant opened two new hypermarkets and announced a major expansion programme to support UAE’s initiative to host Expo 2020.  Abu Dhabi headquartered retail giant opened two new hypermarkets and announced a major expansion programme to support UAE’s initiative to host Expo 2020. Commenting on group’s expansion plans, Yusuff Ali, Chairman of Lulu Group, said that 20 new hypermarkets are expected to be operational in the next two years in Dubai and northern emirates region.

“These new projects reflect our ambitious growth plans for UAE in sync with the EXPO 2020, and our commitment to providing both citizens and residents in this part of the UAE with an unparalleled shopping experience,” Mr Yusuff Ali added. “With the rapid economic growth being witnessed all around the UAE, we strongly feel we should be closer to our customers so that they do not have to make long trips to meet their shopping needs.”

Lulu Group opened its 147th Hypermarket in Al Warqa area in Dubai. It was inaugurated by Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of the Department of Economic Development DED in Dubai in the presence of Tariq Al Gurg, CEO Dubai Cares and other dignitaries. Yusuff Ali MA, Saifee Rupawala, CEO, Ashraf Ali MA, Executive Director and other top Lulu officials were also present on the occasion.

Eco-Friendly Shopping

In another development, Lulu Group launched several initiatives as part of its World Environment Day celebrations. The key initiatives include re-usable shopping bags and green check-out counters.

Indian Ambassador Navdeep Suri praised Lulu’s eco-friendly shopping campaign. The event was held at Lulu Hypermarket, Khalidiyah Mall in Abu Dhabi.

“This is high time all of us came together to stop this menace of plastic waste and I fully appreciate the efforts taken by LuLu group in this direction,” said Ambassador Suri. “I urge all residents of this great nation to take the pledge to “RE-USE” or REFUSE plastic to preserve our environment from further damage”.

The Indian ambassador also distributed Free re-usable bags to shoppers as part of the launch campaign.

“Lulu group has been always a key promoter of sustainability & environment protection, and we have over the years initiated many projects in this direction and will continue to do so in the future also,” said V. Nandakumar, Chief Communications Officer of LuLu Group.

The new 120,000 sq. feet Hypermarket is one of the biggest Lulu Hypermarket in the emirate of Dubai and is located in Al Warqa 2. This two-level store is offering entire line of groceries, home appliances, electronics, IT products, fashion, stationery, sports and services ancillary to the business of hypermarket. Moreover, this expansive retail facility’s key focus will primarily be on fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood, all offered under one roof.

In keeping with its endeavour to provide the best quality products in the most hygiene way, Lulu Hypermarket has invested heavily in special areas like state-of-the-art storing facilities, latest baking and cooking machines. It also features a number of outlets including money exchange, Opticals, hair spa & kids saloon, mobile shops among others.
