Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed meets Iraq President

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and President Barham Ahmed Salih of Iraq discussed bilateral relations between the UAE and Iraq and means of developing them across various sectors.

During the meeting, held at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed welcomed the Iraqi President’s visit to the UAE and expressed his hopes that the official delegation visit will contribute towards strengthening ties between the countries.

Sheikh Mohamed and President Salih reviewed areas of cooperation between the UAE and Iraq, and discussed the prospects of developing them in the trade and investment sectors, that best serve the interests of the two countries and their peoples, as well as contributing towards promoting development, stability and security in the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, as well as challenges facing the Arab world, and means to address said challenges.

The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince said that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is invested in strengthening relations with Iraq and advancing cooperation in various fields.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan always supported the brotherly Iraqi people, to help ensure their security, stability, well-being and unity, a legacy that continues to this day, His Highness affirmed.

Sheikh Mohamed extended his congratulations to President Salih for his election win and wished him success in his new role. His Highness went on to emphasise the importance of Iraq’s stability, adding that it affects the stability of the region as a whole. He went on to say that the UAE will continue to support Iraq, to preserve its heritage and economic prosperity in the face of terrorist threats, as well as to attain overall progress and success in the Arab world.

His Highness stressed that tolerance, coexistence and the renunciation of division between the Iraqi people is the way to stability and development. He added that Iraq’s rich history and past successes show that it can overcome and recover from recent turbulent times and that it will once again return as a regional and international player.

For his part, the Iraqi President expressed his happiness to visit the UAE, emphasising his country’s drive to develop further and strengthen relations with the country across multiple sectors. He wished the UAE and its people continued progress and prosperity under its visionary leadership.

The meeting also saw the two sides call for cooperation and concerted efforts by Arab countries and the international community to confront the scourge of terrorism and extremism that threatens the security and stability of nations and peoples.
