Sushma visit cements Indo-Bahrain ties

The Indian Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj met with the King H.H. Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Prime Minister, H.H. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and H.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain during the two-day visit to the country.

The second meeting of the Bahrain-India Joint Commission was held in Manama on Sunday, 15 July 2018. The meeting was co-chaired by Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sushma Swaraj.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including recent developments in the Gulf, Middle East, West and South Asia. The next meeting will be held at New Delhi, dates to be announced later.

The visit saw agreements and MOUs being signed in relation to visa for diplomats, renewable energy and healthcare.

Sushma Swaraj inaugurated new Indian Embassy Complex in Bahrain in the presence of Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs and senior Bahraini officials.

Alok Kumar Sinha, the Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, welcomed Shaikh Khalid and Sushma Swaraj at the new Embassy Complex, and expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts made that resulted in the inauguration of the new Embassy Complex, stressing the strength of the bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India in various fields.

Sushama Swaraj expressed her pleasure to be present in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the inauguration of the new Indian Embassy Complex, which reflects the historical and cultural ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India, stressing that this step will contribute to strengthening the relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, as well as the Indian community present in the Kingdom.

She also conveyed her appreciation for the mutual trust and constant efforts at the highest levels to develop bilateral relations in the interest of the two friendly countries.
