The amnesty provided by the UAE government is ending today. The facility which began on August 1 helped expatriates to return to their homeland or continue staying in the UAE legally, by reporting to the authorities with relevant documentation, without incurring any fines or penalties.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) has now issued a warning that those caught staying illegally after the Amnesty will face tough penalties including fines, jail sentences and deportation.

The amnesty services were provided to illegal residents under the slogan, “Protect Yourself by Modifying Your Status.” During this period thousands have made use of the opportunity to exit the country without incurring any fines.

Many have also availed the six month temporary visa to seek for jobs in the UAE. During this period the Indian Social Centre (ISC) in association with Indian embassy had also organised a job fair for Indian amnesty seekers.

Extensive campaigns will be conducted by the UAE government to crack down on those staying illegally after the amnesty.

During the last crack down, more than 10,000 illegal residents were caught and they had to face fines and deportation. The organisations and employers who employ illegal residents will face fines up to AED 50,000, the officals have informed.
