UAE participates in ‘Our Ocean Conference’ in Indonesia

The UAE participated in the fifth ‘Our Ocean Conference’ hosted by the Republic of Indonesia, which concluded today in Bali.

Mohammed Abdullah bin Mutlaq Al Ghafli, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, represented the country during the two-day conference, as part of UAE’s commitment to protecting the marine environment and combating illegal practices affecting the future of oceans and seas.

The conference was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, in the presence of a number of heads of states, and representatives of 48 countries from around the world, as well as a number of non-government organisations and civil society organisations.

The conference focused on many important topics, including expanding the area of marine reserves, addressing environmental impacts on seas and oceans, maritime security, marine pollution, and the development and sustainability of fisheries.

During the conference, some countries and organisations announced their pledges to provide financial and technical assistance to implement programmes and action plans to protect seas and oceans, preserve the marine environment, among others.
