In celebration of the Year of Tolerance, Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai has been serving Iftar in its dining hall since day 1 of Ramadan and will be continued until the last day of Ramadan this year. Serving Iftar is not new for Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai as they have been hosting Iftar every year, since 2012.
On May 15, a special Iftar get together was arranged and attended by various faith leaders in Dubai, diplomats and dignitaries and other prominent personalities. Chief Guests of the event were HE Mr. Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai & Minister of Finance UAE, H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, Indian Ambassador to UAE, Mrs. Mani Suri, wife of H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, and H.E. Mr. Vipul, Consul General, Consulate General of India, Dubai.
A designated area in the dining hall of the Gurudwara temple was partitioned for their Maghrib prayers. And traditional dried fruits and juices and vegetarian meals were served for Iftar.
“The year 2019 also marks the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. Among his many teachings were about peace, humility, and respect to humanity. Sitting and eating together regardless of social status or religious belief is part of our tradition that emphasizes equality and acceptance.” said Mr. Surender Singh Kandhari.
