Tributes to Khoon Vaisakhi in Dubai

In celebration of Guru Nanak Devji’s 550th birth anniversary and of the UAE’s Year of Tolerance, Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai Hosted Book Presentation of Khooni Vaisakhi.

Nanak Singh, the author of the book, after going through the traumatic experience proceeds to write Khooni Vaisakhi, a long poem in Punjabi that narrates the political events in the run up to the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in 1919 and its immediate aftermath. After sixty long years, the poem was rediscovered and has been translated into English for the first time by the author’s grandson, H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, Indian Ambassador to UAE.

H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri read and explained excerpts from the book. Singer artist, Mr. Harpreet Singh, played the guitar and sang lines of poems in the book that moved the audience to tears.

“We thank the ambassador H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, for writing this masterful literature that tells the important part of our history that should never be forgotten,” said Mr. Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai.
