Arab Nations on mission mode to help Lebanon

August 9, 2020

Arab nations have sprung into mission mode after the fatal blast that rocked Lebanon’s capital city. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are in the forefront to extend aids to the economically fragile nation.

A UAE plane carrying 40 metric tonnes of critical medical and food supplies as well as nutritional supplements for kids has arrived in Beirut in support of the victims of the massive explosion that rocked Beirut on Tuesday.

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) had rushed to provide assistance from the country’s strategic emergency relief reserve immediately following the blast.

“A comprehensive phased humanitarian plan has been put in place in response to the crisis, and during this stage, the focus is laid on providing medical supplies in support of the Lebanese health facilities under the current tough circumstances to help them respond to the needs of the large number of victims,” said Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, the ERC Secretary General, stressing that the crisis will weigh on the Lebanese medical scene and therefore all possible support should be provided to help the country’s authorities survive the fallout of the explosion.

“The response plan includes a significant amount of assistance and psychological support for kids, especially that all available reports indicate an increased number of victims among children,” he continued.

From their part, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia deployed its third assistance plane to Lebanon. The country’s efforts are being coordinated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).

The plane is carrying more than 200 tons of medicines, devices, solutions, medical and emergency supplies, tents, shelter kits and food items to deliver to affected people in Beirut, accompanied by a specialized team from the Center to follow up and supervise the distribution operations.
