The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 21.5 million, while the deaths were nearing 774,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Monday morning, the total number of cases stood at 2,15,98,893 and the fatalities rose to 7,73,934, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
The US accounted for the world’s highest number of infections and fatalities at 54,03,213 and 1,70,052, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Brazil came in second place with 33,40,197 infections and 1,07,852 deaths.
In terms of cases, India ranks third (25,89,682), and is followed by Russia (9,20,719), South Africa (5,87,345), Peru (5,25,803), Mexico (5,22,162), Colombia (4,68,332), Chile (3,85,946), Iran (3,43,203), Spain (3,42,813), the UK (3,20,343), Saudi Arabia (2,98,542), Argentina (2,94,569), Pakistan (2,88,717), Bangladesh (2,76,549), Italy (2,53,915), France (2,52,965), Turkey (2,49,309), Germany (2,25,007), Iraq (1,76,931), Philippines (1,61,253), Indonesia (1,39,549), Canada (1,24,004), Qatar (1,15,080), Kazakhstan (1,03,033), Ecuador (1,01,542) and Bolivia (1,00,344), the CSSE figures showed.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the Mexico (56,757), India (49,980), UK (46,791), Italy (35,396), France (30,410), Spain (28,617), Peru (26,075), Iran (19,639), Russia (15,653), Colombia (15,097), South Africa (11,839) and Chile (10,452).
