Saudi Endorses UAE’s UNSC Seat Bid

July 1, 2020

Addressing the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) meeting, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Khalid bin Mohammed Manzalawi expressed the country’s support to the candidacy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for the 2022-2023 term.

Saudi Arabia also urged all other countries to endorse the UAE candidacy.

“Saudi Arabia and the UAE share more views that do not spare any effort to promote peace and security across the world,” he said at the meeting chaired by the Chinese delegation to the UN.

“The UAE has succeeded in addressing the major issues closely related to international cooperation, peace, security and sustainable development and it has clear humanitarian imprints, through its close cooperation with the United Nations and international partners to achieve the common goal of lasting peace in the Middle East and the world at large.”

Manzalawi pointed out that the UAE always seeks to promote the message of peace and spread a culture of tolerance and is invariably committed to diplomatic endeavors aimed at settling disputes by peaceful means through dialogue and confidence-building, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

He added that the UAE has steadily affirmed its commitment to collective action, its adherence to the Charter of the United Nations and its enhancement of multilateral diplomacy.
