World COVID-19 tally touches 18 million

With the COVID-19 cases still rising around the world, the figures in the world tally table are steadily moving ahead day by day. The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 18 million mark, while the deaths were nearing 6,88,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Monday morning, the total number of cases stood at 1,80,02,567 and the fatalities rose to 6,87,930, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The US accounted for the world’s highest number of infections and fatalities at 46,65,932 and 1,54,841, respectively, according to the CSSE.

Brazil came in the second place with 27,33,677 infections and 94,104 deaths.

In terms of cases, India ranks third (17,50,723), and is followed by Russia (8,49,277), South Africa (5,11,485), Mexico (4,39,046), Peru (4,22,183), Chile (3,59,731), Iran (3,09,437), the UK (3,06,317), Colombia (3,06,181), Spain (2,88,522), Pakistan (2,79,699), Saudi Arabia (2,78,835), Italy (2,48,070), Bangladesh (2,40,746), Turkey (2,32,856), France (2,25,198), Germany (2,11,220), Argentina (2,01,919), Iraq (1,29,151), Canada (1,18,768), Indonesia (1,11,455), Qatar (1,11,107) and the Philippines (1,03,185), the CSSE figures showed.

The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the Mexico (47,746), UK (46,286), India (37,364), Italy (35,154), France (30,268), Spain (28,445), Peru (19,408), Iran (17,190), Russia (14,104) and Colombia (10,330).
