Sharjah Ruler honours ALECSO Award winners

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has praised the ALECSO-Sharjah Award for Language and Lexical Studies on Tuesday, during a ceremony to honour the award winners.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan’s remarks came during a speech at the award’s second edition launch held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, as part of World Arabic Language Day celebrations. He said, “Here we are meeting again on this glorious day, the World Arabic Language Day, in this prestigious organisation that serves the science, culture, and education, UNESCO.”

The Ruler of Sharjah, noted that ALECSO at its second edition has reached a high status regarding the international awards that deal with the studies of linguistics and lexicon. The Award has witnessed increased interest, with the number of research submissions reaching 102, covering various areas of linguistics.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan congratulated the award winners, wishing all the participants success in their fields of research.

Highlighting the Arabic Language Dictionary Historical Corpus, he said that the project is progressing well, noting a series of accomplishments by teams working on the project, including the building of computer language code, with committees being established across nine Arab states.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan also presented an ALECSO commemorative shield to the Ambassador Dr. Ibrahim bin Yusuf Al-Balawi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to UNESCO; Abdullah Ali Musabah Al Naimi, UAE Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, and Nada Al-Nashif, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences at UNESCO, for contributing to the success of the Sharjah Award for Language and Lexical Studies at its second edition.
