In commemoration of the Year of Tolerance and the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai welcomed thousands of devotees to celebrate Vaisakhi festival.

Vaisakhi Festival marks the beginning of the solar year for the people of North India, particularly Punjab. Highlight of the celebration are prayer ceremonies and processions in the Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai. Similar to most festivals, people exchange greetings to friends and relatives usually with sweets or other customary gifts.

Vaisakhi has special significance for Sikhs because on this day in 1699, their tenth Guru Gobind Singh Ji organized the order of the Khalsa. Sikhs celebrate this very important day of their religion with joyfulness and devoutness. After a special ardas of kirtans (religious songs), kada prasad (sweetened semolina) is given to all attendees as form of blessings. People will also have langar or community lunch prepared and served by volunteers.
