Dubai Municipality keeps city clean after 2 million people celebrate New Year … reports Asian Lite News.
After the New Year’s Eve celebrations, Dubai Municipality has successfully removing 87 tons of waste from the various celebration sites as the city witnessed participation of people from all over the world in the night long celebrations. The waste was cleared in record time in order to achieve the Municipality’s strategic plan to build a happy and sustainable city, which seeks integrated waste management.
Eng. Talib Julfar, CEO of Dubai Municipality for Infrastructure Services Sector, said: “The Municipality had prepared an integrated plan to secure the sites of celebrations, festivals and sports and tourism events for the cleaning and removal of waste from the New Year celebrations as Burj Khalifa, Business Bay, the beaches extending from Jumeirah Beach to Dubai Marina and Burj Al Arab, as well as Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown Dubai and Dubai Water Canal had become the focus of the world’s attention.”
“The Municipality had equipped an integrated team of 1,802 workers and volunteers and had allocated 1,066 of its cleaners and 30 specialized supervisors, in addition to distributing 200 additional waste containers of different sizes in more crowded areas. A number of sand brooms were also provided to clean the main roads,” he said.
“With the cooperation of its partners, the Municipality also succeeded in securing 736 volunteers, who helped the workers in cleaning operations. A total of 87 tons of waste was collected during the cleaning operation, which continued from 5 pm to 6 am the following day, which allowed us to complete cleaning operations in record time before 8 am,” pointed out Eng. Abdulmajeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department.
In anticipation of any emergency, the “Sand Team,” comprising of 40 officers and observers and 500 cleaners, was kept ready for emergency intervention, he added.
