Sharjah Ruler reviews Etihad Rail project progress

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Wednesday received H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Transport and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council, was also present.

In 2015, Stage 1 of the project, which extends 264km, was delivered, linking the Shah and Habshan gas fields in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi to the port of Ruwais on the Arabian Gulf, with a capacity of transferring 22,000 tonnes of sulfur granules daily.

Stage 2 will extend 605km from Ghuweifat on the border with Saudi Arabia to Fujairah on the east coast, to be followed by future route additions.

Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed thanked the Ruler of Sharjah for his interest in the Etihad Rail project, praising the leadership’s generous support for the development of strategic projects in the UAE.
