UAE embassy hosts special Olympics event

UAE embassy holds event for Spain’s Special Olympics team … reports Asian Lite News.

The UAE embassy in Madrid has organised an event to bid farewell to the Spanish delegation participating in the Special Olympics World Games, which will take place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, from 14th to 21st March.

The Charge D’Affaires at the embassy, Ali Al Marzouqi, and embassy Second Secretary, Sara Ghazi Al Muhri, welcomed the athletes, noting the importance of the Special Olympics taking place in the UAE, as the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to host the games.

Al Marzouqi explained that the Special Olympics Higher Committee in Abu Dhabi has remained consistent with the vision of the UAE towards ensuring a unified and inclusive society, by increasing opportunities for persons with disabilities to play an essential role in society, and empowering them across multiple sectors.

For his part, Special Olympics Spain President Miguel Sagarra thanked the UAE Embassy for the ceremony, and hospitality, adding that he has always enjoyed all his dealings with the UAE people. He expressed his confidence that the Spanish delegation will spend a good time in the UAE during the Special Olympics World Games, hoping to win many medals.

Real Madrid player Marco Asensio, who attended the ceremony, expressed his sincere wishes for success to the Spanish delegation. He thanked the UAE Embassy for hosting the event, adding that it represents a gesture of goodwill by the country
